FreeLists / tn-bird / [tn-bird] Sora Comeuppance at Beverly Park, Knoxville

Wed. evening about 8 pm, we were treated to great looks of a
Sora Rail at the Meadow trail pond of Beverly Park just off
Tazewell Pike in North Knox County.  Leigh spotted it on the
southwest corner (Hillcrest nursing home/ jr. golf course side).
 A Louisiana Waterthrush was also found bobbing away on the same
muddy patch, & the Sora chased it off spreading its wings out
for greater effect.  The Sora immediately got its comeuppance
when a Green Heron flew into the area, causing the Sora to
quickly retreat into the cattails.  All the while, at least 50
Chimney Swifts were working the pond & adjoining field at 8- 20?
above us. 3 Common Nighthawks were also seen at dusk.

Last week while sitting outside our home (1/2 mile from Bev Park
as the crow flies) near dark observing the brown bats & some of
the earliest seen stars Vega & Arcturus, a Great Horned Owl
swooped over our heads at low altitude into the back yard woods.
 He perched on a tree limb quietly for a few, before departing
to parts unknown.
