Dyer and Lake Counties

After not getting to bird at all over the holiday weekend I was suffering
from withdrawals of the feathered kind so I took the day off and went
birding.  I arrived at Black Bayou at 7:30 am, there were dove hunters
across the road but none on the north side so I decided to go for the Bell's
Vireo.  I listened in vain for 45 minutes or so and then I decided to walk
over the the water and check out the shorebirds.  I found 8 species of
shorebirds which included a Common Snipe.  Also present were two
Green-winged Teal amongst all the Blue-winged cousins.  Afther scoping for
several minutes I heard the Bell's singing so I walked over to the trees.
After a few minutes I located the bird and got great scope views.  I also
had a single female Dickcissel, the first I've had lately.  No sign of the
Bewick's Wren.

From here I headed to Tiptonville Bar where I found several shorebirds
including 3 Sanderlings.  On to Island 13 where I found a total of 12
species of shorebird including:

Black-bellied Plover -1
Western Sandpiper - 4
White-rumped Sandpiper - 1
Baird's Sandpiper - 14
Dunlin - 1
Buff-breasted Sandpiper - 4
Common Snipe - 2

From there I headed south into Dyer Co. and stopped at White Lake Refuge.
Here I found 11 species of shorebirds including:

Black-necked Stilt - 3
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Stilt Sandpiper - 13
Wilson's Phalarope - 1

I left there and went across the road to Tennemo Levee where I added
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher and Olive-sided Flycatcher.  Further south I made
my final stop at the south end of Everett Lake where I had 9 species of
shorebirds including:

Dowitcher spp. - 1 (too far away to ID)
Stilt Sandpiper - 8
Sanderling - 1

Also here I had 50+ American White Pelicans feeding out in the lake.

I had a total 20 species of shorebirds today.  Herons & egrets were seen in
good numbers at most stops but no ibs, Wood Storks, or spoonbills were seen
despite looking.
