[tn-bird] Weekend birding at Radnor Lake, Nashville

On Saturday morning my wife and I spent 2 hours (7-9 am) birding Radnor
Lake in Nashville. By the dam near the old Visitor's Center, which is now
a ranger residence, we got a treat, an Olive-sided Flycatcher, giving us
both front and rear views. It's white patches could be easily seen
with the naked eye. Also in the dead tree were two BALTIMORE
ORIOLEs, one of which was an adult male. Several warblers including
2 Canadas rounded out the viewing. A walk around the lake produced a
female SCARLET TANAGER and our first SWAINSON'S THRUSH of the fast
approaching fall season.
We returned on Monday from 7-9 am. We birded again behind the ranger
residence and found several warblers including a Blackburnian. Soon we
heard chickadees and titmice mobbing something in one of the trees.
Hoping for an owl, my wife Bonnie instead found that a COMMON NIGHTHAWK
had attracted their attention, while it attempted to doze on the limb of
the tree. The bird was still there when we returned about 9 am, and we
got a bonus, a WORM-EATING WARBLER working on brunch.
I'll be out at Radnor Lake on Wed. morning for another go.
