[tn-bird] East Tennessee birding trail

In my column on the Outdoors page of the Johnson City Press today
http://www.johnsoncitypress.com
I am proposing an East Tennessee birding trail, and gave a list of
suggestions for the far eastern edge of the state.
Next week I'll continue, beginning with Rankin Bottoms (actually Rankin
Wildlife Management Area).
Next week I'll continue it, and plan on using
Rankin Bottoms
Mossy Creek in Jefferson City
Eastern State in Knoxville
Sharp's Ridge
Kingston Steam Plant
Loudon Dam
Hiwassee crane refuge
Brainerd Levee
Nickajack Lake
I'd welcome any additions at either end that I may have missed. Just
e-mail me, or put it out for the list to discuss. This could be a good
thread.
Nominations for a Middle and a West Tennessee birding trail are also
welcome, but should be under a separate thread.
Once we have reached some sort of concensus on the three trails, perhaps
some of our lurkers from TWRA would like to appropriate the information
and print some pamphlets that could be placed at Interstate information
areas and to distribute to various national and regional outdoors and
wildlife publications to promote eco-tourism for our state.
I would hold out for inclusion of sites on private land where birders
are welcome, with appropriate cautions, and I'd move for denying any
site from the trail that Tennessee State Parks feel you should pay a $3
use fee to pull up and scan the lake. Just looking without use of
facilities should be free and we should use what leverage we might have
on this matter.
