North Memphis - 51 Highway
Memphis, Shelby Co. TN
There were 13 immature Wood Storks in a drying water hole just off 51
Highway north of Watkins, at noon today. There were 213 Great Egrets and a few
Great Blue, so what ever they are eating will be gone soon. Mike and I will
check
this and a few other areas out tomorrow. Then it will be scope time at the
pits. Last year on August 6th, I took a few bad photos of a bird that past for
Little Stint, so why not now, with one strutting its stuff in KY.
I played hooky at lunch and got down to the river. There were a ton of Black
and Least Terns plus a few shorebirds including 8 Black-necked Stilts. This
species has almost disappeared from the pits at present.
Two of the 3 Little Stints I've had at Ensley were molting adult birds in
August and the third was a sharp juvenile in September. Red-necked Stints have
shown from August through October. Get to your closest shorebird place and
watch.................Now!
Good Birding !!!
