Ensley, President's Island,
Mississippi River and the Frayser Flycatchers
Memphis, TN

The build up of numbers at the pits settled down after a few days of steady
southerly winds. On Saturday, I did add 2 Long-billed Dowitcher to the season
list at the pits and Sunday 2 Piping Plovers roamed the sandbar across from
Mud island. Western Sandpipers were hard to find on Saturday and impossible
on Sunday. Pectoral and Semipalmated numbers slowly creep up while Black-necked
Stilt numbers went down as the early hatchers have taken flight with mom and
dad. Ruddy Turnstone and Sanderling are still hanging out on the rock jetty
out from Mud Island, where they have been for over a week. Shorebird Season
Total now at 19 species.

An Osprey was perched on one of the towers in TVA Lake and Mississippi Kites
continue to be seen all across Memphis. The President's Island
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher trio of youngsters now fill the nest and soon will be
 trying
that flying thing mom and dad do so elegantly.

Besides the 5 mix breed flycatchers in Frayser, there are now a brood of 3
full blooded, fledged Western Kingbirds being fed by a pair of adult birds.
The hybrid brood at this same location has been split, with the Scissor-tailed
mom (I still think she is not 100% S-T) feeding two and the Western Kingbird
dad feeding three.
Good Birding !!!
