Decided to brave the blistering heat and humidity today to check out Stone's
River Greenway from the Kohl's Department Store parking lot on Lebanon Rd. for
1\2 mile south towards Percy Priest Dam along the greenway. Several species of
birds including some that were probably warblers but were too close for my
10X50 binoculars to see clearly. Of note were dozens of butterflies and
dragonflies of numerous varieties including one beautiful Zebra Swallowtail.
On the way home I was startled to see two deer in someone's front yard in a
heavily developed suburb of Hermitage! My total list of birds are as follows:
American Goldfinch Many calling and singing
Blue Jay 1 calling
Carolina Chickadee Numerous seen and heard
Carolina Wren 2 present calling
Field Sparrow 1 Singing
Great Blue Heron one present on the opposite (East) bank of Stone's
river near trailheadKilldeer 1
Northern Cardinal 2
Number of Species: 8
