Hi Birders,

The immature Cooper's hawk just gave me a BIG thrill by standing on my deck 
about 8 feet in front of me here in Charlotte Park, West Nashville, Davidson 
County, a few blocks east of the Cumberland River's Cleece's Ferry Boat Ramp.  
It stood there for about five minutes watching for prey and giving me the 
opportunity to shoot several close ups of it.  It soon flew at a squirrel that 
was 
in the grape vines a few feet away.  It missed and flew up to the roof from 
which it shortly flew down to a deck chair about 20 feet away.  More pictures.  
I kept the camera ready and got "Immy" as it plunged into the grape vines 
after the squirrel, and apparently came out the far side out of my sight.  I do 
not know if it "connected" in there or not.  I got a GREAT photo of "Immy" with 
wings outstretched and tail aspread as it flew into the vine.  When I went out 
to check a minute or two later, the hawk was no longer in the grape vine, so 
it HAD to have gone through with or without the squirrel.  It hasn't been back 
in ten minutes, so MAYBE (hopefully) it is off somewhere feasting on a 
"catch."  I can sure afford to lose a LOT of squirrels!

I just LOVE having the immature Cooper's so up close and personal.  What a 
fantastic bird!!!!!!!!!!
