[TN-Bird] Hummingbird goes herbal!

Here in Charlotte Park, West Nashville, just east of the old Cleece's Ferry,
one of my ruby throated hummingbirds spent a good bit of time this afternoon
"draining" the nectar from the tiny white flowers on my basil plants which are
just outside the dining room doors.
Early today, and only for a few minutes, what I guess was a young male
ruby-throat with some stripes on its throat and wings that extended a little
beyond
its tail had me "thinking" possible calliope for a while, but it just did not
seem small enough in comparison to the ruby throat that was on a wire about
ten feet away. The stripes did not appear red as in ruby-throat, but seemed
blackish-purplish as in calliope, however I just didn't feel good about calling
it anything but a ruby-throat. The little sucker never did face me and fan its
tail to give me a better indication. He sat giving me the side view which is
how I saw that his wings did go a little past his tail. Wish it had stayed
around so I could have gotten an expert over here
Cheers & prayers,
Dee Thompson
