Dacus Bar
Shelby Co. TN
During the rain today, I had just enough time to check out Dacus Bar on the
Mississippi River (I'd loved to have gone to the pits) to see what the storm
put down. The river is on a 3 foot rise and has wiped out a lot of Least Tern
nests on one of the small spits of sand. A few Least Sandpipers were all I
could see on my first scan but suddenly there was a large Wind Bird, but a
flash of the wing settled any thoughts for something real good but I'll take a
Willet any day around here.
I failed to mention a curious collection of ducks on McKeller that I've been
watching and have no explanation for; a few weeks ago I found 5 Lesser Scaup
staying on the lake and this past Saturday and Sunday, I had 3 Ring-necked
Ducks in the mix. I've had healthy Ring-necked summer at White Lake refuge
before but why are Lesser Scaup and Ring-necked summering on McKeller. I've
seen
some of these birds fly so I don't think they are all cripples due to
hunting. Any thoughts??
Good Birding !!!
