Thanks for the input from several folks, and a little more description of
the bird. he had a distinctive curved feather topnot (seems like that thing
has a proper name) , and bright white markings around his eyes, and his
chest was bluish. I'd say he was the same size as a bobwhite, but seemed a
bit more elongated. Never heard him call. Maybe he will be back tomorrow. I
suspect he is escaped from some hunting endeavor, but don't know anyone
nearby who does any quail hunting. He must have come from something like
that, though....
