Mississippi River
Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co, TN
After seeing my first of season migrant Wind Birds on the river on June 22,
I had found 2 Willet working Dacus Bar on Saturday. I had a few more Least
Sandpipers that afternoon and then on Sunday at the "Pits" in Ensley Bottoms,
I
had 5 Least Drop in for my first of season there. About and hour later
another single Least was seen in another area.
On the River, early Sunday, I counted 65 Least Terns at nest sites and
hunting the river. Right on time were a pair of Black Terns coming down river
and
as usual it was an adult and an immature bird.
One heart stopper on Saturday was a bird flying up river, this bird was
fairly good size, flashing white out side primaries, the rest dark except a
white
belly. My mind was churning trying to guess what rarity it might be, when it
finally arrived..............it was a symmetrically plumaged, partial albino
Green Heron;o)
Good Birding !!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
