President's Island
North Memphis,
Shelby Co, TN
Last week, I found the hybrid female Scissor-tailed Flycatcher feeding only
one youngster but suspected there might have been some hidden in a nearby
tree. This Friday, I found she had all four of her brood lined up on a chain
link
fence and Saturday, she had moved them out of the industrial area and over
to the fields to the north. She is taking good care of them and feeding them
all by herself. I've posted photos of her and the youngsters at the last of
this page: _http://www.pbase.com/ol_coot/sex_in_city&page=all_
(http://www.pbase.com/ol_coot/sex_in_city&page=all)
I've also posted the latest photos of the north Memphis hybrid young, being
tended by Mom the hybrid and Dad a Western Kingbird. There is a second nest
with another hybrid female mated with another Western Kingbird. These photos
are at the same site as above. I'm interested in seeing what these birds will
look like as these youngster's grandmother was a hybrid????
Another Western Kingbird site, I found in between these two locations
appears to have 3 pair nesting. Making four different nest sites inside the
Memphis
city limits.
Good Birding !!!
