[TN-Bird] Baby Birds in a Hot Yard

In spite of the oppressive heat we've been seeing lots of non-feeder parent
birds bringing their babies into the yard the past few days. Scarlet and
Summer Tanagers, Orchard Oriole, Red-eyed and White-eyed Vireos, Barn Swallows,
Cedar Waxwings, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, Bluebirds, Cerulean Warbler, American
Redstart, and Pileated Woodpecker have all been seen with their immatures.
One baby almost didn't make it yesterday - a fluffy male Ruby-throated
Hummingbird. Virginia went out in the middle of the afternoon to check the
feeders and came hurrying back to say a hummer was in trouble. This little
fellow had come to one of our feeders that has a flat round area with 8 ports.
It was in the sun and apparently he became so hot while sitting there he could
not move and he was just laying down across the flat surface with a dazed look.
He allowed me to pick him up and I brought him inside. A few minutes after
being in the cool air and drinking some cold sugar water he was flying around
the kitchen. He settled on the light fixture and allowed me to catch him
again; holding a hummingbird has to be one of life's great pleasures. We took
him back outside and he went to a feeder and drank some more and then flew
away, evidently recovered from his overheating. We sure hope that predicted
cold front arrives soon and gives these young ones some relief. We saw a male
Yellow Warbler in the yard this morning and we had not seen one here for almost
three months. Is this the beginning of the fall migration?
