[TN-Bird] Request for program recommendations for NTOS

Greetings once again:
Some of you will remember that this time last year I took advantage of the
vast experience of TN-BIRDers and solicited from you recommendations for
programs for the monthly meetings of the Nashville Chapter of the Tennessee
Ornithological Society (NTOS). Your response was gratifying and resulted in
our
inviting a number of excellent speakers from Middle Tennessee and beyond. My
thanks to all of you who made that possible.
The floor is now open for nominations for the meeting year 2006-2007â??your
suggestions for those among you who have something of interest to say
regarding
birds, birding, and the natural worldâ??and the political infrastructure which
is so important to the survival of the avian world. You can nominate others
or you can volunteer yourself.
Like all such organizations, our financial resources are limited, but we can
usually defray travel costs and provide housing for those traveling instate
or from neighboring states such as Alabama and Kentuckyâ??such as we did with
Bobby Harrison when he agreed to speak for the annual TOS meeting in
Nashville, hosted by NTOS.
Following is a selected list of some of the programs and people who have
graced us with their presence over the past year or so:
* Sandy Bivens, â??Bird Stories and Studies from the Warner
Parksâ??â??the
rich birding history of Nashvilleâ??s twin parks
* Susan Bradfield, â??Kids are for the Birdsâ?? (birding programs for
kids
â??and grown-ups too!)
* Mike Carlton, â??Whatâ??s Happening in Our State Parksâ??â??an
encouraging
word from a State Parks official
* Ed Byrne, â??Tennesseeâ??s Best Birding Localesâ?? (preview of an
article
to be published in the Tennessee Conservationist)
* Richard Connors, â??Dragons and Damsels: Digital Views of Other Flying
Creaturesâ??â??professional photographs by the TOS president-elect
* Richard Connors, Frank Fekel, Melinda, Chris Sloan, Melinda Welton, â??
What You Always Wanted to Know About Birds but Were Afraid to Ask: Responses
from a Panel of Expertsâ??â??lively set of questions and answers
* Ed Gleaves, â??The Literature of Birdingâ??â??PowerPoint presentation
on
bird guides and beyond
* Alice Klingshirn, â??South Africa: A World in One Countryâ??â??
photographs of South African wildlife
* Daniel Moss, â??Fort Campbell: Providing Important Habitat for
Grassland and Scrubland Birdsâ??â??inside look at the birds on a major
military
reservation.
* Charlie Muise, â??Bird Banding Projects in East Tennesseeâ??â??report
on
MAPS in the Smokies
* Gary Myers, â??State Wildlife Strategiesâ??â??a view from the top
