Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
Checking out the new arrivals today produced two season firsts, a single
Pectoral Sandpiper plus 2 Greater Yellowlegs. The number of Lesser Yellowlegs
had jumped to 9, with one bird in the most vividly marked breeding suit I've
ever seen for that species. The bird was almost completely covered with
barring
from neck to belly; with just a brief look, one could have easily mistaken
it for a breeding plumaged Stilt Sandpiper.
The Solitary Sandpiper was still just that, while the Least Sandpiper
numbers took a big leap to 52. It seemed like the Killdeer numbers were down
slightly. More newly hatched Black-necked Stilt were seen while others had
been led
off to more secluded areas.
Seven Wind Bird species and counting...........
Good Birding !!!
