[TN-Bird] Game Bird Day
- From: "michael sledjeski" <mtnsylva@xxxxxxx>

While driving along rural Cocke county roads yesterday, I encountered four
species of game birds within a short space of time. The two Wild Turkey
mothers and a half dozen+ young crossing the road were not unusual this time
of year. A turn in the road produced a less common chance to watch a Ruffed
Grouse family scatter, regroup, then head for the woods. A couple of miles
farther down the road, a male N. Bobwhite crossed my path (a pair had
crossed in the same place the day before).
Two hours later, Michael and I passed a feathered stranger with a ring
around his neck, standing alongside a road. Presumably, the male Ring-necked
Pheasant had been introduced by a local resident. I wonder if he will soon
seek company with a band of wild turkeys, just as the Peafowl pair has in
our neighborhood.
