Of course, I can't resist a good rain storm and I had an hour to spare so I
sat in the rain and scanned. It paid off, as I was able to record 2 FOS Wind
Birds. Beside the expected Killdeer and Black-necked Stilts, I counted 1
Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 65 Least Sandpiper and a Stilt
Sandpiper. I got some gloomy photos of the new arrivals.
I did have one set back as I was able to locate only 2 active Black-necked
Stilt nests and could not find the youngsters that were hatched just this
weekend but worst of all I found 2 immature Black-necked Stilts that were dead.
There did not seem to be any evidence of a violent death and they were about 30
feet apart.
The rain did not become more than a healthy sprinkle and we sorely need the
water but maybe next time.
Wind Bird Species Count so far this season.........10
Good Birding!!!
