Robert,
My wife and I visited the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail this past
spring. We had a great time and picked up some great birds. We mainly
stayed north of the Galveston area (Horn Island). If you are competing for
numbers, you must try to end your trip at Big Bend, TX. We picked up around
170 species of birds around Horn Island but was not able to visit Big Bend.
Doing so would have increased our total number of birds considerably.
Sticking to the coast will provide you with waders, gulls, rails, and most
neotropicals. Venturing into Big Bend will add many interior species and
even a few species that are mostly found in Mexico.
Good luck with your trip, make sure you take mosquito netting or spray, you
will definitely need it.

Birders,
Have any of you gone south to visit the
Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail?

I want to add some seabirds, pelicans and
cranes to my life list. The GTCBT follows the
Texas coast from Louisana to Mexico. We are
planning a vacation there. I just wondered
if one of you had done it before. There is a
"competition" in April, but we just want to
go slow and have fun.
