[TN-Bird] yellow-headed blackbird in Norris

At dinner at my in-laws today (June 26, 2007), my father-in-law who has just
started watching birds at his feeders told me about a bird he saw on Monday
(June 25). He said the bird had a yellow head and neck was black had white
in the wings and was as big as a crow. He said it was with some other birds
he called blackbirds. I asked him how yellow the head was. He said it was
as yellow as a goldfinch a common bird at his feeder. When I showed him a
photograph of a yellow-headed blackbird he immediately said that was the
bird. Since he is not very experienced at birds, I don't think him saying
that the bird was as big as a crow should discredit his sighting. Size is
not an easy thing to decipher and he did not know many birds to compare size
with. He said he watched the bird feeding for about 5 minutes at his
feeder. I drove around the town of Norris after eating but did not see any
blackbirds. He was not able to watch the feeders much today.
The bird was seen at the Chestnut Commons apartments near the AmSouth bank
in the town of Norris. I didn't ask if I could give the apartment number so
I won't give it here.
He will be watching his feeders tomorrow. I told him to get a photograph of
it if it comes back. I won't be able to look for it until Thursday. I will
write if it does come back.
There are a few farms in the area towards Clinton and Andersonville. Eagle
Bend Fish Hatchery is not too far from here. It may be worth checking these
areas out.
A good bird for someone that just started watching birds about a month ago.
