[TN-Bird] Bird banding at Seven Islands, Knox County, TN

After taking last weekend off, we will be back at Seven
Islands in Knox County this Sunday, June 24 to run our MAPS (Monitoring Avian
Productivity and Survival) bird banding station.  We will start setting up
nets at 5:30am to open nets by 6:00am
(weather permitting), and we will start closing nets by 10:30am (weather
permitting). We should be done by noon.
All are welcome.  Directions to
Seven Islands are available on the TOS websiteâ?¦

Last Sunday we captured almost 50 birds total with 11 that were re-captures
(banded last year). In 2007 (3 days, so far), we caught 107 new birds (this
does not
include local recaptures in the total).
Since 2005, we caught 790 new birds during the MAPS banding.

Below is a list of planned dates for future bird banding at
Seven Islands.  Also there is a summary
of the new birds banded during the MAPS period at Seven Islands in 2007 and
overall (2005-June 10, 2007) to give you an idea of what kinds of birds you
could see.  This is a great chance to
see a bunch of birds up close, and to learn a little about bird banding.  We
can always use more volunteers.  No experience necessary, training will be
provided.  Bring lots of water and
snacks (itâ??s hot in the grasslands).

If you would like to help, let me know.

Thanks,

--Jim Giocomo

Knoxville, TN
