Ducktown, TN

After a successful bid to see the South Polar Skua at Carters Lake in
Georgia, my wife and I mountain biked about 4 miles of the Brush Creek Trail
#341 a few miles west of Ducktown in the southeast corner of TN. Although I
only tallied 19 species during the hour, a half hour of which was in a
welcome downpour, seven of those were the following singing warblers: N
Parula (2), Yellow-throated (1), Prairie (2), Swainson's (1), Ovenbird (1),
Hooded (7), and Yellow-br Chat (1). The Swainson's was the most unexpected,
as the habitat at that point was a dry slope of mostly Sourwood and Post Oak
with a thick understory of blackberries, Carolina buckthorn, Bracken and
Hay-scented Fern et al. Most of these were in the first mile on the north
side of route 64 but the Swainson's was on the south side after you pass
under the highway.

Happy Birding
