[TN-Bird] Roan Mtn & Unaka Mtn birds, etc.

Highlights from Roan Mtn and Unaka Mtn in northeast TN;
seen by Virginia Fairchild and I.
Roan Mtn
Carter Co, TN & Mitchell Co, NC
13 June 2007
N. Bobwhite - 1 calling (Engine Gap)
N. Saw-whet Owl - 1
Alder Flycatcher - 4+
Brown Creeper - 1, singing
Hermit Thrush - 1, singing
Golden-wg. Warbler - 2+ (Hampton Cr. Cove)
Indigo Bunting - 5 males (Engine Gap to Rhodo. Gardens)
Red Crossbill - flock of 25+, flybys
Pine Siskin - 5+

Hermit Thrush - 2, singing
Magnolia Warbler - 2 males, singing

At both sites we saw the usual high-elevation birds, i.e.,
Red-br. Nuthatches, Golden-cr. Kinglets, Veery, Canada Warbler, etc.
The rhododendrons at Roan Mtn are spectacular now, mainly at
Carver's Gap & across the balds; at the Gardens they are just shy of peak.
