TN Birders,
On June 12, 2007 I birded the Carver's Gap area in Carter Co. My goal was to
see the
Alder Flycatcher. Soon after arrival I found two flycatchers in the alder near
the
parking lot. They were flying back and forth across the TN/N.C.line. I played a
taped song briefly and they flew closer to investigate. I did not hear the birds
sing so my id is based on habitat and location. I have photos of the birds as
well
as others for the day. Photos here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mhodge/sets/72157600361983867/. Some other birds I
observed while I was there are below.
Carver's Gap:
Mourning Dove
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Gray Catbird
Brown Thrasher
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Eastern Towhee
Dark-eyed Junco
Indigo Bunting
At Hummingbird Hill:
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Least Flycatcher
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Ovenbird
On my way back home I stopped at the Smelcher and Toby Road intersection in
Greene
County mentioned by Ben Britton. I was able to locate and photograph the
Grasshopper
Sparrows he reported. All of the photos are here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mhodge/sets/72157600361983867/. They are under the
June
2007 Birding set.
I have included some photos of the rhododendron blooming on Roan Mountain.
Regards,
Michael Hodge
