[TN-Bird] Collinwood BBS (Wayne-Lawrence Cos)

My first year on the Collinwood BBS, which runs from just east of the
Natchez Trace Parkway, passes near Loretto, and ends south of
Lawrenceburg. I ran it yesterday (6/2/07) in odd weather: calm
winds, and a gray mantle of Okefenokee smoke. I've never used sky
code "4" on my BBS forms before. A pleasant day, bird activity was
pretty good. But the smoke kept the thermals from getting up before
the end of the route, which knocked down vulture and raptor numbers.
A sign of the times: 2 Eurasian Collared Doves, first time reported
for this route. Some other interesting finds were an American
Redstart at Shoal Creek, and a single singing Dickcissel on the power
lines among the wheat fields of southern Lawrence County. A brief
glimpse of a swallow that might have been a Tree Swallow would have
been another new species for the route, but the view wasn't good
enough to count. If there was one this year, there will be plenty
more in coming years probably.
