[TN-Bird] ID help, please

I spent about an hour today with an odd-looking duck on the Red River in
Kentucky. I was in a boat, and he was paddling along enjoying the cool weather.
I
got some great pictures of him, but I can't find him in any of my books. I'd
really appreciate some identification help; I'd be glad to email photos.
Also got to see a tiny hummingbird (sorry--too far for ID) light on a branch
overhanging the river. Closer inspection revealed her nest, and I got some
great pictures of it, too, without disturbing it, of course. If anyone's
interested, I'll send those pictures too.
All this in Logan County, Kentucky.
