good news! we have a baby barn owl!! saw it first last week (in the same nest
cavity that we saw last summer's parent birds which subsequently died on
september 1 and 2 leaving 2 nearly grown owlets) but didn't realize til
yesterday that it was a young one til we noticed it's "really bad hairdo".
it's all fuzzy and fluffy instead of neatly feathered. he sits on the edge of
the cavity during the day and watches the goings on in our yard and seems to
find us very interesting. he's stayed out for a couple of hours on occasion
tho frequently disappears for a nap. parent birds are very edgy and usually
fly away at night when we go near the tree tho this young one sits calmly and
observes in daylight-we haven't seen it at night yet nor have we seen the
parents in the daytime-they are really hard to locate in daylight. what a
wonderful development now after losing the parent birds last year.
