[TN-Bird] Merganser in Shady Valley, Johnson Co.

A Hooded Merganser (female or second year male) was found in Shady Valley,
Johnson Co., TN today (6/17). Shady is the state's highest mountain valley at
2800 feet elevation. This is the first summer record for this species in Shady
Valley in five years. A similar bird was present June 1997, June 1998 and May
to Aug 2000. It is notable that the bird arrived in connection with the cold
front which passed thru the area Thursday.
