Hi - On a wonderful field trip up to the Cherokee Lake & Dam area yesterday,
we were treated to watching both the male and female Orchard Orioles feeding
two or three babies in a beautiful sack-like nest HIGH up in a pine tree.
Thank goodness for spotting scopes! In the same tree, we spotted a second
nest (looked like mostly pine needles) and watched it long enough to see
Cedar Waxwings fly in and out!! A large nest for such small birds - it was
about the size of a cantaloupe!
While at Mossy Creek observation platform, a mature Bald Eagle
flew in from behind us and treated us to a nice fly-by about 30 feet in
front of us!

Thanks to Harold Howell for leading a great field trip!
