Studies have been done and have shown that only unmated male Northern 
Mockingbirds sing at night. 
Maybe they're working overtime?

Speaking of Mockingbirds:  Does anyone know why they sing in the middle of
the night?

Sorry if this has been discussed before.  I'm new to the list, having
recently moved to Nashville from upstate New York, where Mockingbirds are
very few-and-far-between.
