I was able to take a close look by boat at the heronry on Little Elder Island
on Woods Res. There are at least two Cattle Egret nests with young. Judging
from the feeding behavior I 'm sure that there is at least one Little Green
Heron nest but I was unable to actually see it due to the density of tree
growth. The cattle egrets were flying to a spot on the south side of the lake
just beyond Big Elder for their food. We watched them make several trips back
and forth to the same area. The Little Green Herons are primarily feeding around
Big Elder. Great Blue Herons are plentyful all over the lake . There was also
an Osprey feeding in the open part of the lake between the officer's club and
the Franklin County boat ramp on the south side of the lake.
