Just returned from three days in West Tennessee, an area covered well by 
Jeff Wilson and Nancy Moore whom I met at Mud Lake while the Fulvous 
Whistling-Ducks were apparently snoozing in the winter wheat during my 
tenure there.
On the way back I stopped at Kingston Steam Plant (Roane County) at 
dusk, and after a half hour's work located a Brown-headed Nuthatch in 
some of the few remaining pines on the right side as you go in the 
entrance. There were in with a flock of Cedar Waxwings.
Up to the other end of the plant and the hike with scope on shoulder out 
to the mud flats. On the way, the Northern Bobwhite I heard calling 
flushed and flew around me and past, first visual I've had of one in years.
On the flats there was lots of deposits exposed and nobody there working 
them. Did have a nice Yellow Warbler in the trees right in front of me 
in good setting sunlight.
Turning around I hiked to the top of the dike and saw some Mallards and 
down at the far end, some shorebirds. Thinking they were Killdeer (some 
were) I hike back to the car along the dike rim and finally had good 
light on the peeps, which turned out to be 9 Semipalmated Sandpipers and 
2 Baird's Sandpiper.
Good news that the shorebirds are using this facility. All you have to 
do is park and walk straight up the dike.
All this time I heard turkeys gobbling and wondered if perhaps Wild 
Turkey were in the area. As I left I saw the culprit at a property 
across the road, a large tan and white, and very tame turkey.
A nice way to end a long day's drive.
