Ensley Bottoms
President's Island area
North Memphis
Shelby Co.TN
After the Peregrine pursuits on Saturday, overnight we lost the single
Willet but added 1 Baird's and up to 5 White-rumped Sandpipers. The Wilson's
Phalaropes went from 6 to 11, now with 8 beautiful females and 3 males. One
female
was seen courting a male, this is the second time I've seen Phalarope
courting at the pits. Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs numbers were only slightly
down
but Stilt Sandpiper numbers went over 100 while both Dowitcher species
stayed the same. Western Sandpipers are few and far between but Semipalmated
numbers went much higher and will continue to rise for a couple of weeks. The
single Dunlin continues along with the 6 Semipalmated Plovers. Spotted
Sandpipers
stay in double digits and Solitary Sandpipers still number in the hundreds.
Up to 18 species on Sunday even with the Willet leaving.
A female Painted Bunting was seen feeding on President's Island and a male
Scissor-tail was flycatching about a quarter mile from their nest site. Two
different Western Kingbirds were seen in the industrial area east of the
President's Island causeway. Westerns Kingbirds and hybrids were found in north
Memphis in separate areas.
