[TN-Bird] some migrants at Norris Songbird Trail Sunday May 6

I spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the Songbird Trail at Norris in
Anderson County, Tennessee yesterday. SCARLET TANAGERS were flying and
foraging at eye level. There's no mistaking that brilliant red flash in the
sky for a Cardinal. BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were everywhere. Two or three
NORTHERN PARULAS were singing near the north end of the trail in the trees
by the water. A spectacular MAGNOLIA WARBLER was at eye level on the other
side of the trail and very cooperative too. Had a brief look at a singing
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER from underneath with my neck at 90 degrees
(unmarked white with dark throat) but despite hearing it over and over I
could not relocate it for a better look. (It was a life bird for me so I
tried pretty hard to see it again). Non-migrant SONG SPARROW perched with 3
worms in its mouth (waiting for me to leave, I presume, so it could feed its
brood)--a good provider.

A mystery warbler--looked almost exactly like a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER except
that the patch on its wing appeared to be white rather than yellow. I got a
pretty good look at this bird a couple of times. It was in the trees by the
river near the top of the wooden staircase leading down to the water (the
Maggie was on the other side of the path, the Black-throated Blue was in the
same patch as the mystery bird as were gnatcatchers; I think I spent an hour
in that one spot). It had a prominent bright yellow crown, the black mask,
black throat, white cheek and unmarked white underparts of a Golden-winged.
The only problem was that wing patch. It just didn't look yellow to me. In
fact the only bit of color on the bird was the yellow stripe on top of its
head. (Maybe, I thought, if I could get a third look I could make that white
patch turn yellow) No, it wasn't a YELLOW-RUMPED... no yellow rump, no
yellow on its side, a patch rather than wing bars and the yellow crown was
too extensive.
