Visited Sharp's Ridge (Knox Co.) w/ my mother today from 9:00-2:00 w/ a break
for lunch. The weather was mild and overcast in the morning and hot and sunny
in the afternoon. Lots of good birds today w/ a few f.o.s. and our 1st ever
CANADA WARBLER about 200 yrds W of the observation deck on the N side of the
rd.(~1:30).
notables:
Bay-Breasted Warbler - 1 (m)
Blackburnian Warbler - 6 (3 together)
Black and White Warbler - 2-3 (all f)
Black-Throated Green Warbler - 6
Blackpoll Warbler - 2-3
Canada Warbler - 1
Magnolia Warbler - 1 (m)
Yellow-Rumped Warbler - 4
Red-Eyed Vireo - 1
Great Crested Flycatcher - 1
E. Wood Pewee - 1
E. Phoebe - 1
Scarlet Tanager - 2 (m,f)
Summer Tanager? - 1 (f)
Rose-Breasted Grosbeak - 2 (m,f)
Red-Tailed Hawk - 1
I also saw a possible Nashville Warbler (yellow underside/seemingly grayish
head); a warbler w/ white underside and brown side-streaks but I didn't see its
upperparts (Chestnut-Sided or 2nd Bay-Br.); a somewhat large upright
flycatcher-type bird w/ blackish upper-head contrasting w/ whitish throat and
thin streaking on sides of breast perched on the top of a tree (Olive-Sided
Flycatcher or E. Kingbird??). I don't know if either of these last 2 are
unusual for Sharp's Ridge.
