Radnor Lake State Natural Area
Nashville, TN
Davidson Co.
I birded Radnor Lake along with Mary Zimmerman and Phillip Casteel this
morning. We totaled 26 species of warblers, but what stood out was the sheer
number of birds. We encountered several mixed flocks between the west parking
lot and long bridge each containing dozens of birds.
Species included:
Golden-winged 1
Tennessee 4
Nashville 1
Northern Parula 2
Yellow 2
Chestnut-sided 10+
Magnolia 10+
Cape May 3
Yellow-rumped 20+
Black-throated Green 20+
Blackburnian 5+
Palm 5
Bay-breasted 10+
Blackpoll 10+
Cerulean 1
Black-and-white 10+
American Redstart 4
Prothonotary 2
Ovenbird 3
Northern Waterthrush 2
Louisiana Waterthrush 2
Kentucky 2
Mourning 1 (at Long Bridge)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Wilson's 2
Yellow-breasted Chat 1
We ran into Chris Sloan who also had a Canada Warbler but we missed it.
Other species:
Spotted Sandpiper 2
All the vireos except Yellow-throated (1 each of Warbling and Philadelphia)
Swainson's Thrush 50+
Gray-cheeked Thrush 1
Wood Thrush 1
Yellow-billed Cuckoo 1
Least Flycatcher 1
Both Scarlet and Summer Tanager
Both Baltimore and Orchard Oriole
All in all, a great morning to be out birding!
