[TN-Bird] Hummer Hordes Arrive

This afternoon large numbers of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds arrived to join the
ones who have been here for several weeks. Every one of our seven nectar
feeders was covered as they filled up for the night and some were even eating
at the oriole feeder. There was so much movement it was difficult to count
accurately but the number had to be 50-60 around the feeders at the same time.
Since we still have about 50 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks at the feeders and visible
in the trees, we're going to be busy filling feeders this week. Still only a
few warblers but we assume that is because we have only one or two trees in the
yard with green leaves. Most of the warblers we found at Casey Cove Park on
Saturday with the Gambills were feeding on the ground in a large flock and we
think that was because so much of the high foliage was killed by the recent
freeze. So we're looking forward to our annual warbler trip to Magee Marsh in
Ohio even more this year.
