TN-Birders:
After a good day butterflying
Libby Wolfe and I made a swing by the
Standifer Gap Marsh
in Chattanooga
and were treated to two sightings of UPLAND SANDPIPER.
The first time the bird flew back and across the ditch.
We thought we lost it.
However on the third drive down the road
we spotted it again - in the same location.
We had excellent looks at the bird and
then it flew - up, up and AWAY
farther and farther from us until it was
a speck in the sky.
We birded in the area about an hour and it never returned. This was about 5:30
PM.
According to Cornell Birds of North America on line
they migrate at night, so this bird could have been
leaving our area.
Libby and I both think the fields across the street
(Standifer Gap Road) should be great places for
the UP SA.
