Kevin Bowden and I shared the most wonderfully birdy morning we can remember 
at Radnor Lake as we walked a little past Long Bridge and back. It started 
with Ranger Brian Becker spotting 8 American Avocets flying over the lake.  As 
of 
12:00, they were still there, on the water in the middle of the lake.  But 
for over 3 1/2 hours they just flew in circles without landing, sometimes right 
over the water, and other times up at tree level.  I have never seen them at 
Radnor before.  

But warblers and vireos were everywhere, with prolonged looks at eye level in 
the sparsely leafed trees.  And a flock would stay in one area for a long 
time, so we were getting multiple stunning looks at each species.   It was just 
like a fallout, but without the bad weather.  We wished more birders had been 
there to share in our amazement, especially when we had two male Blackburnians 
in our bins at once just 15 feet away.  And the bird song was still going 
strong until about 10:30.
