[TN-Bird] May 5 Nashville area big day

I am planning an official big day in the Nashville area on Sunday May 9 and
decided to use today as a scouting day and "dry run". The weather was
beautiful, but neotropical migrants were present in low numbers only. the
variety
was good, but each bird was somewhat of a struggle. I finished in my yard with
E Screech-Owl for 120 species, not so hot. Ducks were virtually absent with
none seen other than Wood, and Mallard. 7 species of shorebird is usual for
this route, but no PB Grebe or Loon listed is sad. Bank Swallow was a no show,
and all vireos were seen except Philadelphia which I managed to miss at
Radnor. Harpeth Valley yielded Shrike, Kestrel, Blue Grosbeak, Grasshopper
Sparrow,
but no Willow Flycatcher - too early?? The best bird of the day was at the
beach at Old Hickory Lake perched on one of the buoys - an adult Laughing Gull
full hood and all. Osprey was seen 3 different times, a Red-shouldered Hawk
at Ashland City was nice, and Cooper's Hawk was seen twice as well.
Chuck-wills-widow, and Whip-poor-will were both singing away at the NASCAR
track in
Wilson County. 24 species of warbler wasn't too bad, but most were in small
parties only. I managed to miss White-throated Sparrow (after seeing
White-crowned), House Wren, Pied-billed Grebe, Blue-winged Teal, and others.
Here's hoping for Sunday
