Oh, the house finch is happy
I know that he is
For he has a house finch
Who is happy to know she is his
If only I could sing for you dear
As he does for her
Then perhaps you would not be so demure

Then you'd know of my wish 
That you could be mine

Myself to sit and pine
All day for your love
Like the lonely, mournful, mourning dove
