Thanks Chuck for finally responding!

As a recent secretary of the Tennessee Bird Records Committee I also have
had more than one request for more information on past Tennessee records
from parties out of state, which has proved very difficult with the sketchy,
impossible to obtain, archived records.

I had a recent conversation with the long-time secretary of the Georgia Bird
Records Committee and he told an almost identical story of archived records.
They were supposed to be housed in a musty hall at the University of
Georgia, but no one could find them.......
The secretary just ended up keeping all the records he had at his house so
they would not disappear.  I don't believe they have worked out a good
system yet, either.

It seems that it would be to everyone's benefit to make those records
accessible to all and at the same time make sure they are protected and
preserved. Maybe where they are being stored now is the best place, but
maybe not? Maybe copies should be made (if they haven't already),  those
copies could be made available for public use while the originals are
cataloged and safely stored.  I think we need to set up some kind of
protocol so the recent records that the TBRC has accumulated can become part
of the a growing collection of archived records.  Are we sure that the list
of records that Chuck posted is complete, or are there other records
floating around out there unaccounted for?

I am not going to be able to attend the state TOS meeting this weekend.
But, maybe this topic should be discussed at sometime during the weekend.  I
am willing to help anyway I can.
