1. ANOTHER CHANCE TO GET YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO SUPPORT $150 MILLION IN
STATE WILDLIFE GRANTS
As you know, we had less than one week to collect signatures on the
Saxton-Thompson letter in support of increasing state wildlife
conservation in Fiscal Year 2003 to $150 million. Your hard work
resulted in 28 Representatives signing the letter in that very short
time - and many more suggesting they would sign, but were unable to
contact Saxton or Thompson's office before the formal deadline. That is
a respectable showing, but we know that there is greater support out
there!

Because we know that Representatives were unable to sign on before the
formal deadline, we are working with Representative Collin Peterson
(D-MN) on a 2nd letter to collect additional names.

The Saxton-Thompson Letter is attached with the names of the 28
supporters.

The 2nd letter says:

"We want to associate ourselves with the letter submitted by some of our
colleagues in support of increasing funding for the State Wildlife
Grants program in the Fish and Wildlife Service's budget."

Your Representatives can contact Steve Bekkerus in Rep. Collin
Peterson's office at (202) 225-2165 to sign on.

DURING THE WEEK OF MAY 6-10, please follow up on your Representatives
that you know are in support of $150 million in FY 03 Appropriations for
State Wildlife Grants, but missed the deadline!

2. 25 SENATORS SUPPORT STATE WILDLIFE FUNDING
Thank you for great work with the Senate. One quarter of the Senate or
25 Senators* are already on record supporting a significant increase for
FY 03 State Wildlife Grants! Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, and
Virginia have both of their Senators on board. Congratulations! This
letter will be sent sometime next week, so please continue your efforts.

Senators that have already signed the Lincoln-Warner Letter (23):
