Radnor Lake
Davidson Co
David Kirschke, a new NTOS member from East TN, and I walked around the lake
this morning and had our first of season sightings of Prothonotary Warbler
(1), N. Parula (1-2), Blue-headed Vireo (3) and Chimney Swift (2). David
spotted the silent Prothonotary, and we watched it for several minutes along
the
road, below eye level as it caught and tried to deal with a large insect.
The Parula also came down low for us as it sang. The Common Loon that was
there the last 3 days, was not there today. Neither was the Eastern Kingbird.
There was one Horned Grebe and a couple Pied-billeds. David spotted 4 Brown
Creepers, an unusually high number. There was a Barred Owl at the east end,
and other warblers included enumerable Yellow-rumps, Black-throated Green (3)
and Louisiana Waterthrush (2). Gnatcatcher numbers have really increased, as
well as singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Camille Crenshaw and her friend Bill
also had a Wild Turkey along the dam road. Sharon Monroe had a N. Parula
and an Osprey there on April 4.
