[TN-Bird] Melanism in Eurasian Collared-Doves - Photos

Memphis, TN
Here in Memphis, the Eurasian Collared-Doves have faired well; since I first
recorded breeding here about 10 years ago, they can be found in just about
any quarter of the city. On a recent half day survey, I was able to count over
2,200 at just a few locations. We have a lot of grain storage facilities and
rail terminals where they abound.
I've posted photos of hybrids, color morphs and now Robert Gooch has allowed
me to share a series of photos of two partially melanistic birds. Melanism
is far rarer than albinism (full or partial) or leucism. With a Google search,
I've found a note on some birds reported in Gulf Breeze, FL, in 1999 that
were said to be the first records of melanism for this species but I have not
seen any photos.
If interested, go to the following site address and scroll down to the last
few photos. Click on any photo to enlarge. Any comments would be
welcomed............
