[TN-Bird] Tree sparrow, song sparrow, white-throat, grackles

Hi TN-Birders,
Late yesterday, a song sparrow appeared to feed here on my deck in the
Charlotte Park section of West Nashville....just before there was a short snow
flurry on the deck which took the poodles and me out to catch a few flakes. I
was in the hospital for our other "snows," and hadn't felt a snowflake on my
face all season!
Right now, I have a lone tree sparrow with its stickpin glowing on its
unstreaked breast as it feeds hungrily on this cold day. It's rare that I
ever
have one of those. One white-throated was still here this morning. I'd
thought they were all gone. Another contingent of grackles came in overnight,
so
my yard is a blackbird haven with the usual starlings, lots of cowbirds,
red-wings and common grackles. The grackles' iridescence is just sparklingly
lovely in the bright sunlight, and these appear more bronzy than purple.
Last night's freeze "wilted" the young grape leaves on my vine which goes
around three sides of the large deck. It provides summer cover and autumn food
for my birds. I hope the freeze did not ruin its potential for those
functions later on this year. When I went to the store a little earlier, I
saw
Bradford pears dropping their petals at every turn.
