[TN-Bird] Birding in Moore & Coffee Counties

Ruth Luckado and I birded the Cumberland Springs and Turkey Creek areas
in Moore County and the Tullahoma Airport in Coffee County today
(4/6/07). At Cumberland Springs we saw a Barred Owl, a Broad-winged
Hawk, a singing Ruby-crowned Kinglet, several Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
and Northern Parulas, and a Louisiana Waterthrush. In the Turkey Creek
area (near Tims Ford Lake), we had a Northern Bobwhite, White-eyed
Vireo, a couple of Nashville Warblers, and an Indigo Bunting. At the
Tullahoma Airport, we had a Chimney Swift, a couple of Barn Swallows,
and several Purple Martins.
On a rather comical note, we watched a Carolina Chickadee salvage fur
from a road-killed possum (presumably for a nest). The little bird was
really struggling to pluck as much fur from that carcass as
possible--and it did get quite a mouthful. Nature is
resourceful--after all, why should all that perfectly good hair go to
waste?
