From the west parking lot I walked around the lake this lovely but
brisk Monday morning. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS remained the most
numerous species although I did manage to find 7 different kinds
of warblers today, a positive harbinger for the first of the
NTOS Wednesday walks that will begin in 2 days. Highlight was a
singing male PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, my first one for the year.
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETs outnumbered GOLDEN-CROWNED and a lone HERMIT
THRUSH was a nice find. Some waterfowl continue to come through.
A BLUE JAY circling and swooping down to peck at the head of an
immature RED-TAILED HAWK that was sitting at the top of a tree was
an interesting diversion.
Birds of interest included:
Pied-billed Grebe 4
Wood Duck 5
Blue-winged Teal 5
Ring-necked Duck 3
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6
Hermit Thrush 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
N. Parula 1 male
Yellow-rumped Warbler 50+
Black-throated Green Warbler 2
Black-and-white Warbler 1 male
Prothonotary Warbler 1 male
Louisiana Waterthrush 1
Hooded Warbler 1 male
