[TN-Bird] Loggerhead Shrike data needed

TN-Birders,
As I believe Nathan Klaus from Georgia Department of Natural Resources
sent around previously, I wanted to again draw attention to Loggerhead Shrikes
nesting in Tennessee. Nathan is leading the charge on collecting data on
nesting shrikes in GA and TN, with me being the liason for TN. As many of you
know shrikes are declining rapidly in the southeastern US and we really do not
know why, hence the need for information on breeding birds. What this boils
down to is essentially filling out a datasheet (which I will provide) when you
find a shrike in summer. Nathan has produced an easy to follow data sheet
where you check various details of habitat where a shrike was seen. We are
looking for basic information on habitat use at the site where the shrike was
seen and at a control site of similar habitat at least one mile away. The last
critical thing we need is a GPS point for each shrike site and control as we
will get information on the site using remote satellite
imagery. All this should take less then 5 minutes and will be extremely
valuable to our study.

If you know you'll find shrikes in summer and/or think you may and are
interested in helping out, email me off listserv and I'll be happy to send you
datasheets and information. If anything, it'd be great for many folks to keep
a stash of datasheets in their vehicles all summer and if you see one, fill it
out for us. All data you collect will be immensely helpful in our endeavours
of understanding the Loggerhead Shrike in Tennessee.

Thank you very much,
   Scott
