FreeLists / tn-bird / [TN-Bird] Shorebirds- Chickamauga Lake

I birded Chickamauga Lake (in portions of Meigs, Bradley, and McMinn 
Counties, TN) on April 3, 2006 from 11:30 am to 4:45 pm.  The following is a 
list of shorebirds (and a select list of other birds) observed in the 
appropriate embayments.  Lake level was 677.

North Mouse and Spring Creek:
1. Solitary sandpiper- 1
2. Killdeer- 2
3. Barn Swallow- 6

Candies Creek:
1. Greater yellowlegs- 3 (seen with lesser yellowlegs)
2. Lesser yellowlegs- 3
3. American golden plovers- 3 (seen in flight- all had an inconspicuous 
amount of white in the upper wings, none showed any black auxillaries)
4. Green-winged teal- 88
5. Blue-winged teal- 91 (both teal were hard to count.  These numbers 
represent my best count)
6. Northern shoveler- 2
7. Gadwall- 26

Sugar Creek:
No shorebirds

Gunstocker Creek:
1. Killdeer- 1

Price's Creek:
No shorebirds

Roger's Creek:
1. Wilson's snipe- 18

South Mouse Creek:
No shorebirds

Hiwasee Sandhill Crane Viewing Area:
1. Green-winged teal- ~10
no shorebirds seen

A bald eagle nest near route 58 had one nestling in it.  The nestling was 
observed flapping its wings on the edge of the nest.
